  Short & simple signalpath

Power amplifiers normally require signal levels in the order of 1 volt for full power output. Modern signal sources (phono amp, CD, tuner etc.) in general can supply these levels without any additional amplification. Traditionally, preamplifiers have gain stages of 15-20 dB, an amplification that actually is not needed. The signal path becomes unnecessarily complex and there is also the risk of extra distortion in the power amplifier caused by too high input levels. By simply eliminating the preamplifiers gain stages, the signal path becomes much shorter at the same time that potentially sound-degrading electronic components are avoided. Hereby, the sound quality of your stereo system can become improved.

passive preamp

The preamplifier with its gain stages can be substituted by a high-quality input selector and volume control, a so called passive control unit. The advantages are a minimized signal path which result in an open, transparent and undistorted sound. For best results with a passive preamp the signal source's output impedance, cable capacitance and input impedance of the power amplifier must be optimized.

Audiolive's passive control unit is outfitted with a very high-quality volume control. Great care has also been taken to the choice of sonically neutral interconnects. Air as dielectric is used as much as possible. Shielding against HF is taken care of by the aluminum enclosure which is specially metal-treated for low surface resistance. The front is black-anodized with engraved gold-lacquer filled lettering.
