Interests

I am an ATM (Air Traffic Management) systems engineer and a pilot. My background is software engineering, but I do not work with programming any more, just as hobby to not to loose the knowledge. I work in the aviation business and find my work interesting. Ada83, Ada95 and C are the languages I use. I also used Assembly language, but that was a few years ago. On the other hand, I have used it for many years, so I may say I am still quite good at it. Generally, I like programming computers. I still think it is interesting to see how something develops from nothing, just an idea.

I have also done some hardware development, designed and build a few of my own computers some twenty years ago. These were based on 8-bit CPU, Rockwell 6502, Motorola 6802, Hitachi 6303, with total of between 8k and 64 k (yes, kilobyte) memory. This was the time when people still asked: '... and what can you do with a computer?...' I designed and wrote in assembly language my own Disk Operating System to control these computers. I used a hex keypad to enter all the code from the start, before the keyboard control began to work. I also wrote a simple, but good word processor to be able to print nice documents. The printer I used was a 9-pin dot matrix printer. Maybe some of you still remember them, noisy, slow but cheap to use. Some of you on the other hand may never have seen one, except in a museum. I still think electronic design is interesting, but it takes far too much time, time that I don't have.

I also like photography. To take photos, but also to look at other peoples photographs. Some of my favorite photographers are Ansel Adams and Man Ray. I did take a lot of photos before, but that too, takes a lot of time, specially if you want to do the development and the blow-up work too, like I did. ...if only the days could be 48 hours long and not only 24...

I fly regular single engine planes in the General Aviation Category as a Private Pilot. I don't have many hours, at least not as many as I wish I had. I also tried to fly aerobatics. I am just a beginner in aerobatics but it is really a great fun. I hope one day I'll be able to spend more time flying upside-down and doing loops.
