What's new in the latest BIOS Update?

The newest BIOS versions for Supra™ 8800 is version R1.13.

This version has been released to fix the following problems:

  1. Musi CD-ROM access time has been adjusted.
  2. added support for Trident 9385-1 4MB VGA RAM
  3. Fixed problem where on a system with 128MB system RAM,
  4. suspend-to-disk with hotkey will freeze the system.
  5. Fixed ECP Parallel port problem of printer driver not detected.

How do I update the BIOS on the 8800x?

To update the BIOS on the 8800 to the newest version, follow this procedure :

  1. Download the BIOS update file.
  2. Run the downloaded executable to extract the files in the archive.
  3. Boot up from a system disk. Make certain that no memory manager was loaded.
  4. From the directory where the extracted files are located,
  5. Type "miflash x.x", where x.x is the file name of the BIOS file.
  6. The flash program will start to load the file. After it is loaded, press B to begin.
  7. Make certain that the program is not interrupted for any reason.
  8. Restart the computer when prompted.

Suspend-to-Disk Partition

  1. Boot up from a bootable DOS disk.
  2. Insert the disk labeled "Utility 1 of 5".
  3. From A:\ prompt, type 0vmakfil -pXX, where XX is
  4. at least the amount of system memory installed plus 4 MB for video RAM.
  5. Recommended parameter: -p134.

Core Logic Chipset Driver

Windows 95

Note : You must install the Core Logic Driver before installing any other drivers.
  1. Insert Utility disk (1 of 5), and copy A:\piix4\*.inf to the C:\Windows\INF directory.
  2. Start Control Panel / System / Device Manager, and remove PCI Bus under System Devices.
  3. Restart the system when prompted.
  4. Windows will find several new hardware devices.
  5. If it searches for drivers, simply bypass the requests for updated drivers.
  6. Do not Reboot until the Windows 95 Desktop Appears.
  7. Reboot the computer when the desktop appears.

USB (Universal Serial Bus Driver)

Windows 95

  1. With Utility Disk (1 of 5) in the floppy drive,
  2. run A:\USB\USBSUPP.EXE. Follow on-screen instructions, and restart.
  3. Copy A:\USB\*.inf from the utility disk 1 of 5 to C:\Windows\inf, overwriting the existing file.
  4. In Control Panel / System / Device Manager,
  5. remove "PCI Universal Serial Bus" from Other Devices.
  6. Restart the computer. Windows will find an USB controller and an USB Root Hub.

Video Driver

Windows 95

  1. Go into "Control Panel" / "Display" / "Settings" / "Advanced Properties".
  2. In the screen for Adapter, click on Change.
  3. Insert VGA Driver for Win95 disk, and select Have Disk.
  4. Enter A:\ as the path. Select Trident 9660/9680/938X, Linear Accelerator for PCI (v.5.00.10.TW.0x)
  5. Click on Monitor/Change. Select Show All Devices,
  6. and select Laptop Display Panel 1024x768. Click on Close to return to the Settings screen.
  7. Move the Desktop Area slider right to 1024x768,
  8. and check the box for Show settings icon on task bar. Then, click on Apply.
  9. Restart Windows when prompted.

Windows NT 4.0

  1. Insert the disk labeled Video Driver, VGA Driver for Win 3.x/Win95
  2. From Control Panel, select Display / Settings / Display Type / Change / Have Disk / A:
  3. Select Trident Video Accelerator (04/24/97 9952)
  4. Click on OK to return to Display Properties, and OK again to restart Windows NT.
  5. After Windows NT restarts, go to Control Panel / Display Properties.
  6. Set Desktop Area to 1024 x 768. Select Test to test the configuration, and then Apply.

Audio Driver

Windows 95

  1. Insert Audio Drivers for Windows 95 Disk.
  2. Go into Control Panel / System / Device Manager.
  3. Remove all devices under Sound, Video, Game Controllers.
  4. Also remove all devices under Other Devices.
  5. Click on Refresh. Windows will find new hardware, and will find the drivers in A:\.
  6. When asked to insert the disk, type in A:\ as the path.
  7. When installing the Joystick drivers, you may be asked to insert the Windows 95 CD ROM.
  8. Restart the system when prompted.

Windows NT 4.0

  1. Insert the disk labeled Audio Driver for Windows NT 4.0.
  2. From Control Panel, go to Multimedia / Devices / Add.
  3. Select Unlisted or Updated Driver, and enter A:\ as the directory.
  4. Select OPL3-Sax Sound System (English)
  5. Use the following settings: I/O Address 530, IRQ 7, Playback DMA 1,
  6. Record DMA 0, MPU401 : I/O Address 300, IRQ 11.
  7. Restart Windows.

PCMCIA Driver

Windows 95

  1. Insert Utility Disk (2 of 5), and run A:\PCMCIA\Setup.exe.
  2. Follow on-screen instructions, and restart when prompted.
  3. PC Card Wizard will start. Click on Next 2 times, and click on Finish.
  4. Click on Yes to shut down and Restart.
  5. DO NOT Install Cardwork Software or another PCMCIA utility.

Windows NT 4.0

  • Insert the modem or network card(s) before boot up.
  • To install Network:
    1. Go to Control Panel, and click on Network.
    2. Then answer yes to start installing Networking.
    3. Follow on-screen instructions.
    4. When it asks for Network Adapter, select Start Search.
    5. If it doesn't find the network card, go to Select from List, and click on Have Disk.
    6. After confirming Protocol and Clients, restart Windows NT.
  • To install Modem:
    1. Go Control Panel, and click on Ports.
    2. If there is not a COM3, add it manually. Make certain that you are using COM 3 IRQ 5.
    3. Reboot the system if the port is added.
    4. In Control Panel, select Modem, and select Add.
    5. The Install New Modem screen will appear.
    6. Select Next to allow Windows to search for new modem.
    7. It should first search for a Modem on COM 3, and finds and queries the modem you inserted.
    8. Windows will normally find the modem as a Standard Modem.
    9. You can then select Change to select from a list of modems,
    10. or to insert a Modem driver disk click on Have Disk.
    11. After files are copied, click on Finish, then you can start using the modem.

Trackpad Driver

Windows 95

  1. Insert Utility Disk (4 of 5), and run A:\Setup.
  2. Select Express Setup, and insert Utility Disk (5 of 5) when prompted.
  3. Restart the computer when finished.

VPM Driver (ZV Port)

Windows 95

  1. Insert the disk labeled "Video Driver VPM Driver for Win95". Go to Control Panel / Add New Hardware.
  2. Choose Next, and choose No to prevent Windows from searching for new hardware.
  3. Choose Sound, Video, and Game Controllers as the Hardware Type. Then choose Have Disk.
  4. Type in A:\ as the copy path. You will see Trident TGUI 968x/938x/969x AVI drivers. Click on OK.
  5. Choose Finish to copy the files. Restart Windows when prompted.
