LAMBCHOP:
What Another Man Spills
Nixon
(City Slang)

Lambchop is a Nashville based country and western band, but their music sound like classic soul music, with strings, wah wah guitars and falsetto vocals. On What Another Man Spills they do a cover version of Curtis Mayfield´s Give Me Your Love (Love Song) which, I am told, has been a staple in certain discerning DJs set during the last year. They are also cutting a magic version of Frederick Knight´s I Have Been Lonely For So Long.

Bandleader Kurt Wagner takes his love for soul music one step further on Nixon. The arrangements are larger, strings, gospel choirs and a early seventies groove - all this without even an hint of being retro. Wagner selected Curtis Mayfield´s Baby It´s You from Mayfield´s Come In Peace With A Message Of Love, for Nixon. Wagner wrote new lyrics and called the song The Book I Haven´t Read. He sings it with a weak voice that does not quite matches Mayfield´s powerful voice, but Wagner is a dedicated singer, so it really does not matter. Astonishing!
