NEXT EVIDENCE
Over The Waves/Memory
(Basic Records)
Second release from this French combo. On Over The Waves We get a Brazilian tinged and shimmering piece of deep vocal house music. The year of 1999 seem to be the year when all producers of House music turned to Brazilian music for inspiration. Latin flavored beats seem to be a part of all new dance records now days. Over The Waves has a outstanding saxophone solo and vocals by Karl the Voice and Juliette K.
On their first, underrated 12", the Takin Off EP off Straight Up Records, Next Evidence created two soulful deep house epics. Who Am I? featuring Mandel Turner on vocals, sends us to soul heaven without passing Stax Records. Mandell is such a good singer that he is creating contemporary soul music for the dance floor. Flipside Life Is Bitter And Sweet has a faster beat and break beats - but soul music it still is.
Next Evidence is once again releasing a 100 percent quality deep house music record.
NEXT EVIDENCE
Sands EP
(Versatile Records)
Two 12"s in one month! And Next Evidence maintains quality. On Over The Waves Next Evidence explored the musical influences from Brazil, on the new release, The Sands EP they build a heavy groove on African percussion, timbales, tympany, congas, bassdrum, talking drums, bongos and synth chords.
Next Evidence does not reach for the strands of the African funk, like Masters At Work and Faze Action did on their last releases. Next Evidence is going for the acoustic sounds of African music and build a acoustic deep house anthem that very well could be released on Joaquin Claussell´s label Spiritual Life Music.
The two main tracks on The Sands EP sounds like they could be taken off an anthropological field recording of African percussion with some synths added - synth chords that are vaguely reminiscent of the sounds of rain and distant thunder. Very good music.
