SOUL DEGREES featuring GERRY DeVEAUX, ANGIE B.STONE & JANITA
There Goes My Heart/Tell Me/Loving Every Minute/Front Of The Line
(Expansion Records)
Taking Real Soul Into The Millennium it states on the cover of this 4 track 12" off Expansion records. Well, I donīt know about that, not even sure if I want them to take their soul into the next millennium, since the music on this 12" is more of a retro trip than a journey into new sounds which would be expected from a label that makes such a statement.
The set opens with the soft soul disco in There Goes My Heart. Strings, jazzy tenor saxophone and guitar licks sounds more like it could be taken off a Chic record from the mid 80īs than from a song composed at the end of 1999.
Tell Me and Loving Every Minute are excellent soul disco - like it sounded circa 1992 on the Movinī On compilations.
The real golden nugget on this 4 track EP is the string ridden Front Of The Line, with a almost sublime Moog theme that woves in and around the strings and guitar fills.
Is it any cop for the dance halls at the end of the millennium then? Yes, it is, very much so!

Pitch Black EP
(Next Moov Traxx Records)
Garage memories! Jovonn and DJ Deep are exploring the perfect beat in dark and long themes. Hard, monotonous b-line, keys and a spoken word theme, explaining the underground streach of house music. If played at moderate volume it offers nothing, if played loud it is irresistible. A dark, strange and utterly rewarding record.
