LIQUID LOUNGE vs. JAZZANOVA EP
Complete Life/Deep Blue/Lemon Tea?/Smooth Dancer
(Cooperlab 12")
Super vocal and beats tracks with a touch of electro. This EP from Liquid Lounge comes with four excellent tracks. Complete Life, the Jazzzanova rework, with itīs funky guitar licks and jazzy vocals are reminiscent of Blazeīs My Beat or something by Abstract Truth, only much better. Deep Blue is deep and slow with storming keys. Lemon Tea has an Indian flavor complete with vocals snapping in and out, sitar sounding keys and a fast driving B-line. And it does not sound ethnic chic. It is just a fabulous dance track. Finally, Smooth Dancer comes with slow supersonic bass and abstract beats.
This is a very good record and it is The Best 12" of 1999. It would have been number One in the Best of ī99 List if I had not already posted the list. Donīt sleep on this if you are the least interested in contemporary music.
STEWART WALKER
Nevermore E.P.
(Force Inc 12")
Stewart Walkers dark techno is all of a sudden very good. Walker is building on monotony with a twist. The first two cuts are nothing special, slow bleeping jams for the bar, similar to the tracks on his solo album released mid 1999. Flipside contains Ten Years Of Anger which has ambience synths, breakbeats and a deep b-line. Very good. Second track on flipside is the killer track Intent which comes with a thunderous b-line, percussive blasts and deep echo layers like a dubplate by King Tubby. Excellent!
