FLUID ONCE:
The Vogado Projects Vol 1
(Goya Music Promo 12")

Fluid Once? The Vogado Projects? I do not know anything about this crew. Please let me know if you know anything about these guys. The url, www.goyamusic.com, listed on the label is not open for the public. All I know is that they have come up with some good stuff on this promo.

There are two tunes on this release. On flip side is the slow groover Mas Fuerto Que El Sol. One instrument after the other is added - soprano sax, bells, acoustic guitars, bongos and piano and slowly slowly a Latin tinged groove takes shape and finally is tender Spanish words added. A analog synth chord storm swooshes between the speakers.

The tempo is slightly faster on Never Come Back and it is tailored for soft summer nights on the beach. This is deep, warm and very very special.

RHYTHM & SOUND with CORNEL CAMPBELL:
King Of My Empire
(Basic Channel 10")

Deep house techno from Rhythm & Sound off the trustworthy techno label Basic Channel. This is stripped and minimal on the backbeat including dub reggae aesthetics with EQ, phasing and thunderous bass. On A-side is the vocal with roots reggae lyrics from the smooth voiced Cornel Campbell, and on flip side is a dub-version just like on a reggae single. This one of the tunes of the year. Faultless.

AIR FROG:
Bon Voyage | Swag and Stacey Pullen mix
(R & S Records 12")

Last year Stephan Greider under the name Air Frog released a quirky tune called Bon Voyage. Now it has got the remix treatment by Swag and Stacey Pullen. It is the Swag remix that makes it for me: spaced out beats, bleepy sounds and groovy drum programming. It sound like a cross over between Beau Mot Plague and Swag's remix of Blaze's My Beat. Swag shows that when it comes to smoky deep house beats, they are the best in the business. Buy this 12", you will not be disappointed.

XAVIER FISHER TRIO:
Follow Me - Raw Deal Remix
(Unique Records 12")

Follow Me is taken from the debut album by the German jazz combo Xavier Fisher Trio. The album version is a cool and funky Latin tinged stormer.

On flip is a superfunky remix by the Brittish jazz house crew Raw Deal. It starts off with an abstract soundscape. The b-line is funky and with additional congas, snippets of vocals. hi-hats, piano stabs and a dash of dub. Raw Deal proves once again that you can take a good song and move the vibes in a different direction and still maintain the soulful groove of the original. Totally refreshed.
