Extensions debuted on Billboards Top Pop Album charts on December 8, 1979 and peaked at #55. It was the first album with Cheryl Bentyne (who had replaced Laurel Masse during 1978). "Birdland," a remake of the Weather Report workout, featured new lyrics by Jon Hendricks and earned the group its first Grammy for "Best Jazz/Fusion Performance, Vocal or Insturmental." Janis Siegel scored a solo Grammy for her vocal arangements! There were also two pop hits from the album: "Twilight Zone / Twilight Tone" went to #30 on Billboard's Hot 100 charts and "Trickle Trickle" went to #73
