Extensions debuted on Billboards Top Pop Album charts on December 8, 1979 and
peaked at #55. It was the first album with Cheryl Bentyne (who had replaced
Laurel Masse during 1978). "Birdland," a remake of the Weather Report
workout, featured new lyrics by Jon Hendricks and earned the group its first
Grammy for "Best Jazz/Fusion Performance, Vocal or Insturmental." Janis
Siegel scored a solo Grammy for her vocal arangements! There were also two
pop hits from the album: "Twilight Zone / Twilight Tone" went to #30 on
Billboard's Hot 100 charts and "Trickle Trickle" went to #73

helped The Manhattan Transfer make music history by becoming the first group
to win Grammies in both the pop and jazz categories in the same year. "Boy
From New York City" became their first top 10 hit, reaching #7 on Billboard's
Hot 100 charts. The song also won them the Grammy for "Best Pop Performance
by a Duo or Group with Vocal." "Until I Met You (Corner Pocket)" earned them
