CPU
A pc buyer has today, Pentium, Cyrix 6x86 and Pentium Pro to choose between. Cyrix is the cheapest,
it has a satysfying performance but it is still slower than a pentium at the same speed, but watch
out, the cpu-cooler sounds like a vacuum-cleaner, don't buy anything slower than a 150+ because
it is not worth it. Pentium and Pentuim Pro are Intel made processors with great performance but they
are simply too expensive. A comparison between Cyrix 150+ and Intel 133 showed that Intel handles
fpu much faster(good for texturmapping games like Quake snd Screamer) faster but Cyrix handles memory much faster alltogether Intel won the test
but Intel's 133 cost twice as much as a Cyrix 150+. Intel outside.
Graphic cards
There are two different cathegorys of graphic acceleration. (1)Texture mapping and (2)Windows(or simular)
performance like picture handling, DTP, 3D animation. Please don't fool yourself that a card with high
windows performance will show the same performance in games. It is not the same type of graphics
acceleration. Matrox Millenium is the best graphic card today altogether.
Hard discs
IDE and SCSI are the most common hard drives on the market. SCSI is a little big faster(MB/S) and less
processor taxing. IDE ise a lot cheaper and doesen't need an expensive adapter.
Memory
I have heard of a lot of different memory types. Today's most common are EDO, SDRAM, and usual 72-pinn
simm. SDRAM is 168-pinn simm with 16 or 32 mb of memory. SDRAM tranfer data with the incredible speed
of 45MB/s and it has 40 ns. EDO is a little slower 25MB/s and 60ns. Usual simms have a tranfer rate less
than 25MB/s and 70ns, fast cache helps to speed up the memory handling. It really doesen't matter what
of memory you have, the SDRAM is not price-worth today.
Macintosh
Todays Macintoshes are really impressive. They doesn't cost much more than a pc and Apple gives them
a great operating system that kick windows ass. But were is the software for this computer.
Vramdir
Vramdir is a program that caches the harddrive in the memory. This speeds up the computers performance.
Windows95
I hate windows. Why? Ill tell you, it steals a lot of memory, harddrive and processor. The bugs are
numerous. I don't like Windows but im forced to use it because the Microsoft domination of the
pc market. Could anyone just kill Bill Gates, please.
HTML-browsers
The two WWW-browsers for the pc today are Netscape 3.01 and Internet explorer 3.01. Netscape takes less
HD-space, uses less memory and uses less CPU. It's easy to choose web-browser.
Magnaram 97
This program compresses memory that is not currently used. the program is really effective and
recommended to use. Sometimes the memory is X2.
