Automated Message Board FAQ and Answers

Here is a brief explanation of some of the frequently asked questions (FAQs) you may have about the Automated Message Board, which is distributed on the Internet as WWWBoard.

Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts?

No. You can not use HTML tags in any field except the body of the message. I have allowed you the option of using HTML in the Message, so markup language that you put in your posting will be executed when it is viewed. This allows for much greater creativity, even if you just know a little HTML. (The HTML language is placed in the usual <> delimiters.)

Why are there colons in the message when I try to post a followup?

Colons appear in the message dialog box when you try to followup up on a message to indicate quoted messages from previous postings. Long quoted messages can be edited, but it is proper Netiquette to indicate where material has been removed ([snip]). The number of colons indicates how many times the message has been quoted in the thread (if someone hasn't messed with them).

Why didn't my post show up?

Your post most likely did not show up, because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of the cache memory on your computer. Reload the page on your browser and your posting should then (magically) appear on the Board.

Can I post anything I feel like on this Board?

Yes, within reason. Offensive or obscene material is subject to editing or removal since this site is available to everyone. Since this server is the property of the University of Oklahoma, it is subject to the same review as any of the official Web pages. Needless to say, the opinions expressed by users at this site do not necessarily represent those of the proprietors or maintainers of this system. Please report any abuses that may endanger the future of this Board.

Where can I get the scripts for this program?

The scripts are written in Perl and created by Matt Wright. They are free to anyone who wishes to use them. For this or other free scripts, visit: Matt's Script Archive. Enjoy!
