Army of Darkness: The Medieval Dead
Favorite quote from the movie: "This... is my boomstick!"
This is the final episode of the 'Evil Dead' trilogy, and in my opinion either the best or the worst of them depending on my mood. The three movies are so different that itīs hard to decide. This is definitly more of a comedy than the other two, one would go so far as to say that this is a comedy with undertones of horror, not the other way around. Bruce Campbell is great as Ash, and itīs interesting to see how the character has progressed through the three films, from a frightened victim in the first, to a guntoting survivor in the sequel and now a cocky, almost superhero-esque monster masher in the third.
The violence, reaching itīs gory peak in the magnificent founts of bodily fluids found in the second movie, have become decidedly more cartoony and over-the-top in this film, but surprisingly little blood is shown. There are two versions of this film, the one shown in theatres, with an added happy ending which breaks the films symmetry (from the previous two movies) and feels very patchy and slightly illogical. The Directorīs Cut was released shortly thereafter, containing a more traditionally unhappy end and also laying the groundwork for more sequels.
