Captain Kevin Darling

Captain Kevin Darling has a name that clearly invites ridicule, and who better to exploit its mocking potential than the quick-witted Blackadder. Thus, with an obvious verbal taunt shrouded by a sarcastic affection, Blackadder continues to address the Captain as "darling" and in doing so constantly stirs Kevin's suppressed rage.

Clearly content with his 'danger-free' lifestyle, whereby he offers pointless assistance to Melchett and thus only witnesses hazardous situations when confronted with the General's perplexing insanity, Darling remains hopeful that he will see the War through to the end.

And if he can see to it that Blackadder meets a torturous and deadly fate of some description, then all the better.
