This 3 piece unit from Sweden definitely knows how to rock. This is a 4 song CD has a lot to offer. This entire CD is chock full of lyrics that give glory and honor to God. They are praise songs in the truest sense. If you read the lyrics to "Healing of my soul" you would think Hosanna Integrity Music had the copyright on it. However, in the first song, called "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus". The very first verse says, "He's my fuel, He's my fire, He's my desire, O Jesus. He's my brake, He's my gas, We'll kick some a?? for His Kingdom...." Also, in the liner notes at the bottom, it says "He's gonna rock the a?? of the devil and we're gonna praise Him loud as Thunder!" I've censored the word, but they actually use it. I know there are many of you who would take offense at that word being used in a praise song to Jesus Christ and would call this blasphemy. However, I should remind you that this word is not considered a "profane" word in most of Europe. What is acceptable to one culture is taboo in another. Certianly there is a definite line and Scripture has a lot to say concerning our use of words. I don't want to draw so much attention to the fact that they use this word (which I believe if anything it was that the band did not know other cultures might take offense to using it), rather than to make you aware of it before purchasing a CD that might be a stumbling block for you. As far as the music, this is straight out motorcycle driving metal. We're talking in-yer-face, double bass, European metal with a "no apologies" attitude. This something you might play at a sanctified tractor pull. I hate to compare then to other bands. If you've listened to metal for awhile, you've heard this style before, but this is still a unique band. Other than the issue mentioned earlier, the lyrics are VERY boldly Christian, and the whole album comes off with a real positive feel to it, even if it is pretty heavy. The packaging and sound quality are above average. -- Scott Moore - IntenseRadio
Sons Of
Thunder - Load aim fire (2000)
The
sophmore effort by Sons of Thunder securely establishes this band as
a cool Christian metal band. They make no apologies for their music,
which is probably the best definition of metal as I have ever heard.
As much as their heavy music seems to cause involuntary head bobbing
with their catchy riffs and double-bass passages, their message is
an unashamed presentation of the most flat out Christian lyrics you
could ever want. Most of their lyrics are simply praises to the
Lord, or how they are going to kick the devil's butt, or how cool
Jesus really is. And I totally agree. I thought it was very cool to
have the song "Jesus Viking" on a Swedish metal project.
The lyrics say, "I am a viking, praise the Lord in unholy land.
I am a viking, Don't fear men but I fear the Lord. I am a viking, a
Jesus viking..." This may seem trite, but this is a huge
statement to make in the genre of music and the land they come from
(considering there is a large group of black metal fans in their
country fascinated by Viking history and substituting the heathen
philosophy for a true relationship with Jesus Christ). This song
performed live in their homeland could cause quite a stir. What I
thought was funny was that the phrasing (not the melody) of the way
Michael Hjeite says "I am a viking", it sounds like he is
mocking Yngwie Malmsteen's "I am a Viking". If these guys
live a life of praise as their lyrics portray, these are definitely
guys I would like to hang around with. As you listen to this CD you
can tell the heart of this band and you can tell it has an
annointing to it, because even though never lets up on the riff
pounding music, you walk away feeling uplifted and positive. Some of
the lyrics may not be perfect English, but you understand the vocals
easily. These songs are easy to like and get used to. You can hear
elements of thrash (Deliverance, older Metallica), and low tuned
bands like Disciple. Michael does a great job on the vocals, doing
double duty on the guitar. I also really enjoy the double-bass and
stops. Daniel Mouton takes the repeating riff in "Lord take
control" and turns the beat around 10 ways to Sunday. This is a
lot of music for a three piece to kick out, but they do it
wonderfully. The packaging and covers are professionally done,
better than their previous CD. The production quality is
professional as well, however I think they had a problem with the
mastering. The signal is so "hot" that it is almost
distorting in places, which shows up in the vocals once in awhile.
If you've been looking for the perfect band to show someone what
Christian metal is in all it's glory, check out Load aim fire. --

By Paul Autry They say that rock and roll is the Devil's music. But, people give ole' Goat Boy too much credit because, when it comes to rock and roll, God can kick ass with the best of them. Want someone to prove that to you? Give this four song disc by Sons Of Thunder a listen. Lyricly, the band is blatantly christian, there's a lot of "hallelujah's" and praising the Lord throughout this 4 song CD, which, at times, they seem to overdue it a bit. But, it's a heavenly, hard rock disc that's sure to keep you bangin' your head in an uplifting way. Amen to that! from www.ballbusterhardmusic.com |
