Modern pentathlon
Modern pentathlon consists of shooting, fencing, swimming, horse riding and running. However, youths don't compete in riding. Both boys and girls compete on the same distances. Modern pentathlon makes heavy demands on the athletes. Physical fitness, co-ordination, self-discipline and flexibility are needed to make good results. The sport was introduced at the Olympic Games in Stockholm 1912. During the first decades the Swedish athletes were dominating the sport. Nowadays, most of the best athletes are from Hungary, Russia and France. |
