History
In October 1992
Magnus Sveningsson and Peter Svensson formed the
band The Cardigans in Jonkoping, Sweden. They had played heavy
metal before, but wanted to be pop stars.
At first, the band consisted of Peter Svensson and Matthias
Alfheim on guitars, Magnus Sveningsson on bass and drummer, Bengt
Lagerberg. Soon the guitarist and keyboardist, Lars-Olof
Johansson replaced Matthias Alfheim. The band also needed singer,
so Nina Persson, a friend of Magnus, joined the band.
The Cardigans signed with the Swedish record company, Stockholm
Records, in 1994. Their debut album, "Emmerdale", was
recorded by Tore Johansson at Tambourine Studios in Malmoe,
Sweden. Emmerdale was released in May 1994 and the very first
single, Rise & Shine, became a radio hit.
