Göran "Freddy" Fredrikson Bouzouki Freddy has played Swedish and Irish music on the bouzouki since 1983. he started on electric guitar in rock bands but soon his interest in acoustic folk music took over. Starting with mandolin, fiddle and octave mandolin, which were all tuned in the standard tuning of GDAE. His first try on the bouzouki was on a simple four course Greek one. In the beginning of the 80's he played with local groups in the area of Örebro, the city nearest his home town, and in 1983 he met Anders Stake (Norudde) and formed the group Blå Bergens Borduner. Freddy played on a four-course Sobell bouzouki with tunings ADAD or GDAD. Freddy's musical influences at the time were Donal Lunny, Alec Finn and naturally Ale Möller. Later on, guitarists Roger Tallroth from VÄSEN made a great impression and influenced his playing. In 1986 Freddy toured in Ireland with Jörgen "Dudde" Astner -Irlandsgänget,and Martin O'Hare -Ashplant,in a temporary group called "Norrsken". Freddy played a few years with the French/Swedish band "Svart Kaffe" together with Jean-Pierre Yvert and Bill McChesney -Groupa. The group had several European tours, primarily in France, Holland, and Germany. In later years Freddy has mostly played with the group "ÅDRA" with fiddlers Pehr Falkenström and David Bastviken. A CD was released in 2000. After meeting Irish piper and singer Christy O'Leary, who lives nearby, they have played informally and done a number of gigs together over the years. Sometimes he plays with Christy and Bert Deivert under the group name "Christy O'Leary Band".Freddy has recently started playing again with his old friend Anders Norudde from BLÅ BERGENS BORDUNER and most recently HEDNINGARNA. They started getting together again in 1999 and have worked on Anders' two solo CD's: "Kan själv (Himself)" and "Med hull och hår". Besides the bouzouki, Freddy often plays guitar tuned in DADGAD, Cittern tuned in DADAD and the drone instrument hurdy gurdy. Freddy has composed many tunes in a style that can only be described as a mixture of influences based on the Swedish fiddlers' tradition. |
