Bootlegs

This is a listing of my bootlegs
Primarily Rolling Stones, other artists are found at the bottom of the list
My rankings of the sound is in five steps:
bad - fair - good - very good - excellent

By saying Bad, I mean that only a diehard fan would want to have that recording. It is close to impossible to listen to for a casual fan. On the other end, Excellent is about the same sound quality that you get in legit releases. This is of course a personal judgment that is concluded, and a recording I have classified as fair may very well be considered as good or even very good by someone else... and of course, the opposite also holds true.

  The Rolling Stones
  CD / CD-R

Rolling Stones Gemstones Volume 1-11
Wide collection of outtake tracks from the Stones entire career

No label
22 CD
Rolling Stones Bright Lights - Big City
Demo recordings Jan 28/Feb 2 - 1963 and Live during the British tour, March 5-18 1965

Early demo recordings that sounds like early demo recordings. This is the short version of the CD, that is just a copy of the LP with the same name. Fair quality considering the age of the recordings.

The Swingin' Pig

1 CD
Rolling Stones Beat, Beat, Beat At The Beep
The BBC recordings 1963-65

Mainly from BBC Master tapes with good to excellent quality, but a few tracks are recorded on home recording equipment, with pretty bad quality.

Invasion Unlimited

2 CD
Rolling Stones Ear Candy
Stereo takes of the songs on "Between The Buttons" and "Aftermath"

Very good to excellent sound quality. A joy to listen to the tracks in full stereo, takes that never have been released. Instead we got the Electronically Reproduced variety. This is definitely better in every respect...

TDR

1 CD
Rolling Stones The First Decade
Live in studio and on tour 1963 - 1973

Mainly good to excellent sound quality and a joy to listen to, since it has a very good collection of tracks. I really like this 4 CD box, and recommends it hands down to anyone that want to have a look at the early Stones.

Big Music

4 CD
Rolling Stones Thee Satanic Sessions - Olympic Years 1967-70
Outtakes from Cosmic Christmas to Schoolboy Blues 1967-70

Yes, it is spelled Thee... Very nice set of tracks, mainly good sound quality. It's worth a spin now and then.

Diabolo Music

1 CD
Rolling Stones R.S.V.P. Revisited
Outtakes

A pretty good selection of outtakes from the late sixties. Good sound.

Diamond Bucks

1 CD
Rolling Stones The ABCKO Masters
Outtakes

No, this title is not a typo, at least not from me... The company in business is Alan B. Klein Co, ABKCO for short. Pretty good sound quality, as there are on most outtakes.

1 CD
Rolling Stones Hyde Park 1969
Live at Hyde Park, London, July 5, 1969 (Complete concert)

A special concert two days after the death of Brian Jones. RIP, and I still miss him... Fair sound quality.

Vulture

1 CD
Rolling Stones Live'r Than You'll Ever Be
Live at Oakland Coliseum, Oakland California, November 9, 1969 (2nd show)

The first ever bootleg in a new shiny costume. Nothing added, nothing withdrawn, and still one of the best. Very Good sound quality.

The Swinging Pig

1 CD
Rolling Stones Baltimore 1969
Live in Baltimore 1969

The 1969 tour of the USA probably was the tour that once and for all rendered the Rolling Stones the epithet The Greatest Rock 'n Roll Group In The World. Most concerts are good performances, far from all have good sound. This has a pretty good quality though.

Digger Production

1 CD
Rolling Stones Street Hassle In L.A.
Live in Los Angeles 1969

Stonehenge

1 CD
Rolling Stones It's No Hangin' Matter
Live in California Nov 10'th 1969 and Madison Square Garden, New York, Nov 27'th 1969

Two other of the 1969 shows. The MSG show is one of those used on the Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out live album. Good performance, but don't think you will find the same sound quality as on GYYYO. This is audience recordings with fair to good sound.

2 CD
Rolling Stones Gather No Moss
Live in Saville Theatre, London, Dec 14, 1969, Rialto Theatre, Montreux 1972, Brussels Oct 17, 1973

The Brussels part is noted as "from unreleased second show"

Whoopy Cat

1 CD
Rolling Stones Midnight Ramblers
Live in Grugahalle, Essen, October 7, 1970

World Product Of Compact Music

1 CD
Rolling Stones Wingless Angels
Outtakes, Newbury, Oct. 17 1970 & Philadelphia, July 20 & 21 1972

This is definitely one of my favorite bootlegs, with a fantastic collection of tracks and very good sound.

1 CD
Rolling Stones Get your Leeds Lungs Out - Revisited
Live, Leeds, UK, March 13, 1971

Good to very good quality sound. The first few tracks of the show is missing on all the bootlegs that are available. It doesn't seem like they were ever taped, but maybe, just maybe, will they surface in the future.

Swinging Pig

1 CD
Rolling Stones London Roundhouse
Live in Chark Farm, Roundhouse, London, March 14, 1971

King Snake Records

1 CD
Rolling Stones Unplugged
Acoustic Studio Outtakes, mainly 1968-1973

Good to excellent sound quality, and another one of my favorite outtake bootlegs.

Invasion Unlimited

1 CD
Rolling Stones Beggars Breakfast
Studio Outtakes, mainly 1968-1972

This CD is identical with the Rare on Main Street CD. Good to very good sound quality.

Invasion Unlimited

1 CD

Outtakes, mainly 1968 - 1972, Identical with Beggars Breakfast.

Tong Records World Wide

1 CD
Rolling Stones Stones Touring Party
1972 Dallas rehersals

2 CD
Rolling Stones Love In Vain
Live at Fort Worth, Texas & Philadelphia, PA, 1972

The 1972 tour was a victorious run through USA. This is the tour where Mick Taylor was at his peak during his five year long stay in the Rolling Stones. Good performance, fair sound.

1 CD
Rolling Stones Ft. Worth Special
Live at the Tarrant County Convention Center, Fort Worth, Texas, June 24, 1972 (2nd show)

1 CD
Rolling Stones Unreleased Decca Live Album 1972
Live Boston, Philadelphia, Texas June - July 1972

This could have been a contender to GYYYO as their best live album - IF it had been released. This is a fabulous record, smoking performance and mostly excellent sound.

Stonehenge

1 CD
Rolling Stones Welcome To New York
Live at the Madison Square Garden, July 1972

Audience recording. Good performance, bad to fair sound.

The Swingin' Pig

1 CD
Rolling Stones The Royal Dragon
Live at the Civic Arena, Pittsburgh, USA, July 22, 1972

Audience recording. Again good performance, fair sound.

Vinyl Gang

1 CD
Rolling Stones Melbourne All You Can Eat
Live Melbourne, Kooyong Tennis Courts, February 17, 1973 (first show) and February 18, 1973

Vinyl Gang

2 CD
Rolling Stones Exiles Afternoon "Revisited"
Live Perth, Australia at the Western Australia Cricket Ground, February 24, 1973 and Dallas, TX. Rehersals 1972

Fair sound quality. The Perth show has surfaced on quite a few other bootlegs, most notably "Rocks Off" and "Happy Birthday Nicky"

Turd On The Run

1 CD
Rolling Stones Welcome to Australia
Live Sydney, Australia, Royal Randwick Racecourse, February 27, 1973

A soundboard recording with very good to excellent sound, and very good performance. I like this better than the Perth show, definitely better sound, but I also think the performance is better.

VGP

1 CD
Rolling Stones Birmingham Odeon 1973
Birmingham, United Kingdom, Odeon Theater, 1st show 1973-09-19

A audience recording with very good sound, and very good performance.

Oh Boy

1 CD
Rolling Stones Missing Links 1973
Live in Europe

Tracks from Rotterdam Oct. 14, 1973, Wembley Nov. 9, 1973, Newcastle Nov. 13, 1973, Essen Oct. 10, 1973 and Frankfurt Nov. 30, 1973
Fair sound.

1 CD
Rolling Stones Midnight Rambler
Live at Olympia Halle, MŸnchen, sept. 26'th 1973

A bit anonymous performance and fair sound. They can do a lot better than this.

1 CD
Rolling Stones Brussels Affair 1973
Live at Forest National, Brussels, October 17 1973 (First show)

If Midnight Rambler was a bit off, this show a few weeks later show the other side of the coin. This is Rock 'n Roll at its peak and the performance smokes, with very good to excellent sound as well.

Chamelion Records

1 CD
Rolling Stones Mick Taylor's Last U.S. Performance
Live International Sports Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, January 22, 1973, 2'nd show

Contraband

1 CD
Rolling Stones L.A. Friday 1975

Rolling Stones Order In The Court
Live in Earls Court, May 22, 1976

Soundboard recording

1 CD
Rolling Stones Hot As Hell
Buffalo, New York state, June 15, 1975 - London, UK, May 25, 1976 (fillers)

Good performance, bad to fair sound. Still fun to listen to, mainly because Ronnie does a wonderful work.

SIAE

1 CD
Rolling Stones Hot Stuff - Black & Blue Tour 1976
Live, but no hint on the liners about what show(s) the tracks were taken from.

Audience recordings, fair to good sound quality.

1 CD
Rolling Stones Hot August Night
Soundboard recording Live in Knebworth 1976

2 CD

Outtakes

1 CD
Rolling Stones Some Girls Memories
Outtakes

1 CD
Rolling Stones 1978 Tour Rehearsals
Woodstock, May 10-19, 1978 at Bearsville Studios

Pretty widespread choice of tracks that sounds more like a jam party than a concentrated rehearsal. Good sound and pretty fun to listen at, but nothing for the more casual fan.

No label known

2 CD
Rolling Stones Twilight zone
1978 outtakes at pathe Marconi Studio, Paris and Saturday Night Live show

Soundboard recording

No label known

Taken from the soundboard masters made for a radio show that never aired. Excellent sound quality and very good performance.

The Swingin' Pig

4 CD
Rolling Stones Blind Date Revisited
The New Barbarians & The Rolling Stones - Keith Richards C.N.I.B. benefit concert, Oshawa Civic Auditorium, Toronto, April 22 1979

A soundboard recording, the first CD with The New Barbarians, comprised of Ron Wood (vocals, guitar), Keith Richards (guitar, vocals), Stanley Clarke (bass), Ian McLagan (keyboards), Bobby Keys (saxophone) and Ziggaboo Modeliste (drums), the second CD with The Rolling Stones, featuring Ian McLagan (keyboards) and Bobby Keys (saxophone).

There's a different edge to the two CD's, since The New Barbarians has a very strong Ron Wood touch, and also sound quite a bit like The Faces, but both are really good in performance, and the sound is excellent.

The Swingin' Pig

2 CD
Rolling Stones Static In The Attic
Outtakes 1974-1979

Midnight Beat

1 CD
Rolling Stones Electric Motherfuckers
Mick, Keith and Ronnie stuff, a few Stones tunes

The Swingin' Pig

1 CD

A very nice collection of bluesy outtake tracks. Excellent sound quality

Dr Schnabel

1 CD
Rolling Stones Dirtiest Work
Outtakes from the Dirty Work sessions July - November 1985. Recorded at RPM Studio & Right Track, New York, USA

I am one of the admittedly very few who really love Dirty Work, and my fondness of that CD is inherited by this gem. Wonderful collection of outtakes, excellent sound quality. Sly Stone is featured on a couple of tracks.

This is really a must for everybody that likes the hot rhythm section and rough, angry sound of Dirty Work. For those that never play Dirty Work, and who can't stand the sound of it, beware of this CD, it isn't for you...

APC Promotions

1 CD
Rolling Stones Crushed Pearl
Outtakes from the Dirty Work sessions July - November 1985. Recorded at RPM Studio & Right Track, New York, USA

What I said about Dirtiest Work also holds true for this gem.

No label known

1 CD

What I said about Dirtiest Work also holds true for this gem.

Melody

1 CD
Rolling Stones Atlantic City 1989
Live, Convention Center, Atlantic City, December 19, 1989

This soundboard recording is taken from a radio broadcast, and starts off with reporters chatting away about the show, also a short interview with Mick Jagger. Excellent sound quality. It is also the only show where you can hear Izzy Stradlin and Axl Rose from Guns 'n Roses on stage with the Stones doing a wonderful "Salt Of The Earth" This show exist on various labels.

Stereo soundboard

Dandelion

4 CD

What I said about Voodoo Brew also holds true here. Excellent sound quality, but nothing for the more casual fan.

Vigotone

4 CD

Moonlight

1 CD
Rolling Stones Voodoo Children
Live in Giant's Stadium, New Jersey, Aug. 14, 1994 and Miami, Florida Nov. 25, 1994

CD 2 (Miami) is really special, with Sheryl Crow, Robert Cray and Bo Diddley as guests and acoustic versions of Dead Flowers and Sweet Virginia. Also one of the best ever Before They Make Me Run performed by Keith. This is the result of one night when the boys enjoyed to play.

2 CD
Rolling Stones Stoned In Rio de Janeiro
Live, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 11, 1998

This is a mono soundboard from the TV broadcast show in Rio. There have also popped up stereo versions of this show. Excellent sound quality albeit in mono, except on "Like A Rolling Stone" with Bob Dylan as guest appearance, where sound is bad to fair.

Sister Morphine

2 CD
Rolling Stones Paris 98
Live, Stade de France, July 25, 1998

Although a soundboard, this is a lifeless show. It sounds like half of the sound is missing (Ronnies side), and the audience is barely heard at all.Clean crisp sound, but in my view it only averages to fair nonetheless.

No label

2 CD
Rolling Stones Stockholm '98
Live at the Globe arena, Stockholm, Sweden, September 8'th 1998
