Topic: At last! A working Swedish V90 upgrade (1 of 3), Read 46 times Conf: Modem/Fax From: Hans Pedersen Dambo Date: Tuesday, January 05, 1999 11:28 AM Thanks to a combination of tips from Tommy, Chris and Håkan I finally managed to upgrade the X2 Winmodem to V90 and even get it faster than my 3Com external 56K Message modem. I have tried these tips earlier with no success but today a combination of them made it. Therefore I'll try to summarize what finally made it work for me hoping this will help other desperate Swedes. 1. If you get a clicking noise from the Winmodem, download "dd55432.exe" and move it to Start menu/Program/Auto start 3. Move the files from "win9x90b.exe" from c:/3com_v90 to a floppy disk. Now you can erase c:/3com_v90. 4. Move "wmdll.dl_" from win98CD/drivers/modem/3com-usr/cxm356 to the same floppy erasing the existing "wmdll.dl_" 5. Go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager and remove all modems and COM Ports. (At least I did so) 6. Go to Control Panel/Modem and click on "U.S. Robotics X2 WinModem Voice" icon, if it exists. 7. Go to C:/Windows/Inf. If you don't find it click on View all files. 8. Delete DRVDATA.BIN, DRVIDX.BIN, WINMODEM.INF, WINMODEM.PNF, WMMODEM.INF, WMPORT.INF, WMWAVE.INF 9. Go to C:/Windows/Inf/Other and delete all files related to Winmodem 10. Delete C:/Windows/System/Winmodem.101 directory 11. Restart your computer. When the system detects the modem and starts the updating process, insert the diskette and refer to A:\ for the modem files. Wave device should be detected and updated without need for restart. 12. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so (I didn't get such a prompt) 13. Go to Control Panel/Modem/Properties/Connection and uncheck "Wait for dialing tone" 14. If you have configured connections eg to Internet for the Winmodem you should select U.S. Robotics 56K Voice Win instead. Be sure that you uncheck "Wait for dialing tone" in every configuration. 15. That's it! Now you should be able to connect properly to Internet. At least I did. If you still can hear a clicking noise from the modem put the "dd55432.exe" in action by restarting the computer. I hope this will work for others than me and my XPS R450 Kindly Hans
