The Thing(s)
My home system
If you've come here, you're probably intrested in what computer I'm using at home. I've actually two computers at the moment. One Intel Pentium Pro 180MHz (overclocked to 200MHz) and one laptop, Toshiba Tecra 500CDT. Both are up and running and hooked up to the pilNet.
The PPro (taligent) has a I/O system with a PIIX3 accelerator from Intel. It's part of the 440FX chipset which are used by Pentium Pro systems. It drives a Quantum Fireball TM3200 (3,2GB) harddisk. Other perhipherals include a Wearnes 8X ATAPI CD-ROM drive, Soundblaster 32 PnP soundcard with the EMU8000 wavetable circuit. It's populated with 2MB of extra RAM for my own sound files.
The display subsytem is a PCI Matrox MGA Millennium with 4MB WRAM driving a Samsung SyncMaster 17GLsi at 1280x1024@75Hz.
Both machines runs Windows 95 and RedHat 4.0 Linux. Most of my tube time is spent in XEmacs or GNU Emacs, Netscape and XDvi.
My connection to the rest of the world is PPP via a 28.8 USRobotics Sportster modem and my ISP, Tele2 .
