A Terran Scout impulsing in to dock at a space station

Some background

Earth and beyond is a game developed by Westwood studios, currently a part of EA games. It was launched in Sept. 2002 and was shut down in Sept. 2004. It had about 40000 subscribers at the peak but sadly EA games never saw the potential or didn't had the will to keep this great game going. Earth and beyond had one of the friendliest and best gaming communities in all the online games I have played. I'm the first to admit the game wasn't perfect, but it had much more potential and many of the faults was (slowly) being corrected as the game progressed.

The frontier with a Progen sentinel prospecting for resources

What is Earth and beyond?

The game is a space oriented MMORPG where the players take the roles of space pilots and explore the universe. The universe is filled with mystery and history, monsters and pirates to fight, items to be found and resources to be harvested. Players are free to do whatever they like, but attacking certain Factions have consequences. Earth and Beyond is player versus monster (often called Player versus Environment or PvE) oriented so you cant attack other players. If you want to challenge other players there are special places, arenas, where PvP is allowed.

Development of the game - From idea to launch

A brief history of the development of the game can be found in this pdf document The story of the game which I put together from the official site. It follows the game from its initial state to the launch and a few weeks into the release of the game.
