OVERVIEWSince Moore Stephens London was founded 90 years ago, the Moore Stephens International Limited network has grown to be one of the 20 largest international accounting and consulting networks worldwide. Today the network comprises over 340 independent member firms and correspondent offices in 66 countries, with around 8,750 people. The key aim of the Moore Stephens member firms is to provide comprehensive modern services to clients on a worldwide basis, through the development and maintenance of a cohesive network that operates to the same high standards of professionalism in each country. THE MOORE STEPHENS APPROACHThe approach of the Moore Stephens member firms is to provide a personal, partner and principal-led client service. Each client's affairs are handled by an individual principal, who provides the focal point for client enquiries. This engagement principal ensures that work undertaken for a client both on the routine side and by specialist departments is fulfilled to the highest quality. Internationally, the Moore Stephens member firms and correspondents have a strength which is not reflected in numbers or fee income alone, but also in the relationships that principals internationally develop between themselves. MOORE STEPHENS EUROPEAs with each of the three Moore Stephens Regional Firms, Moore Stephens Europe Limited is a geographical grouping that covers 29 countries, bordered by member firms in Ireland and Portugal in the West, Malta and Cyprus in the South, and Poland, Bulgaria and the Russian Federation in the East. This part of the network consists of member firms with a total of 151 offices, 370 partners and a total complement of over 3,600 people. Go to top of page. Central and Eastern EuropeSince early 1989, Moore Stephens has been a leader amongst the international accounting and consulting networks in establishing member firms in Central and Eastern Europe and providing advice and assistance both to local clients and Western businesses seeking to develop in the region. During 1988 the first indications of significant political change in Eastern Europe began to become apparent and by the end of the year, it was decided to establish in Poland as a first venture. Moore Stephens thus became the first international accounting operation to be permitted to establish a joint venture consulting business in Poland in May 1989. And at the same time, took its first of many instructions in the Soviet Union for shipping accounting services. Since then, member firms have established offices in the Eastern part of Germany and in Prague, in the Czech Republic. In April 1991 Moore Stephens London and Greece formed the first local firm of any international accounting and consulting firm in Sofia, Bulgaria. During 1993, Moore Stephens London registered in Latvia, and in 1996 established joint ventures in Moscow, and in Vladivostok. The firms are established to provide audit, accounting and consulting services in Latvia and Russia respectively. The overall policy in Central and Eastern Europe has been two-fold. On the one hand it has been to assist Western businesses in the developing markets of Eastern Europe. On the other hand it has been to help local businesses, state enterprises and co- operatives to adapt to the rigours of the market economy, in a wide variety of ways. Go to top of page. MOORE STEPHENS ASIA PACIFICAsia Pacific is probably the fastest growing region in the world and is continually increasing in importance in world markets. Moore Stephens International Limited recognises the importance of this region, and is continually working to develop its network of Member Firms. The Moore Stephens Asia Pacific network has grown substantially and now comprises Member Firms and correspondents with 45 offices in 20 countries and around 1,300 partners and staff. They provide domestic and international clients with comprehensive coverage and a full range of services in all the major countries. In the East, it is represented in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, The People's Republic of China, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. The South is well represented with firms in Australia, New Zealand and Vanuatu. Int the West, firms in India, Bangladesh and Mauritius complete the core countries covered in this vast region. In recent times, Moore Stephens' member firms have conducted assignments in conjunction with local firms in the People's Republic of China (`PRC'). In March 1996 Moore Stephens established Moore Stephens Fuzhou CPAs, a co-operative joint venture firm with Fuzhou Certified Public Accountants, one of the three largest accounting firms in Fujian Province, with a staff of 100 persons, of whom over 40 are qualified professionals, an initiative taken by the Moore Stephens member firms in Hong Kong and Taiwan. There are also exclusive correspondent arrangements in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen. Go to top of page. Member Firms have more than 120 offices in all major metropolitan markets in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
