Friday, 6th of November 1998 - More Mariah/Derek gossip. New York Daily News have this article about Mariah and Derek today, this is also gossip though. I don't think Derek would say such thing to Mariah! (Actually I don't think any man would say such thing to Mariah!) ==================== The most sizzling scene at the Sean (Puffy) Combs party was that of Mariah Carey and Derek Jeter back together again at least for a few moments, that is.
It was already 1 a.m. when Carey threw her first pitch at the Yankee shortstop, with whom she was linked romantically earlier this year. At first she tried flirting with him by touching his arm and playfully punching his chest and tickling his sides. Strike one. Then she stepped up her attack by whispering in his ear and putting her arm around his neck. Jeter remained polite, and even chatted with her, but he seemed more interested in the buddies who accompanied him to the party. Strike two. Jeter finally turned to her at one point and said, "You're crazy. You're crazy. Stop pushing me." Hmm . . . sounds like strike three to me. Amid this scene, Carey's date for the night, model Marcus Schenkenberg, dutifully stood to the side as though trying not to impede Carey's progress with her former flame. He did manage to briefly introduce himself to Jeter. Reluctantly, Carey moved on . . . away from Jeter and left with Schenkenberg shortly after 2 a.m. |

Friday, 6th of November 1998 - Mariah singing happy birthday to Puffy. Jason tells me this: ===================== There is a pic of Mariah and Puffy together at his birthday party in the new USA Today (the Fri/Sat/Sun edition). Puffy has his arm around Mariah (it looks like) and she is leaning her head on his shoulders. The caption reads: Birthday Boogie: Sean Combs and Mariah Carey celebrate his birthday. The article says this: Mariah Carey in skin tight red sang happy birthday to Puff Daddy in slate Versace. Guests included: Chris Rock, Muhammed Ali, Derek Jeter, Kevin Costner, Michael Bolton, Denzel Washington, John Singleton, Queen Latifah, and many more. ====================
If anyone have the photo please send it to me. MTV had a story about it too
and a kindof weird photo of Mariah: The ultra elegant Cipriani Hotel in New York's financial district was the site of the event, which attracted well-dressed luminaries from the world of music, sports, big business, and fashion. Among those sipping Bellinis and snacking on Caviar crepes were Muhammad Ali, Chris Rock, Mike D, Michael Bolton and Fergie (together), Derek Jeter, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes and Martha Stewart (not together), and of course, Mariah Carey who knew exactly what to get the man who has everything. "I'm here," Carey quipped to MTV News' Chris Connelly when asked about her birthday offering. "I got him... a nice compliment on MTV. Puffy, happy birthday."
Carey passed on the suggestion of singing "Happy Birthday"
to Puffy, noting, "I didn't have enough vocal rest. I've been working
too hard."
Seems like she didn't sing happy birthday after all, a pity. The New
York post has more gossip on the party. It seems like it was too crowded
and lots of people didn't come in. Also they say Mariah came to the
party with a swede as a date!! The songbird and the shortstop called it quits last spring, but they looked fairly friendly at Puff Daddy's party. Jeter arrived with Kevin Costner and Yankee pal David Wells. Mariah came with supermodel Marcus Schenkenberg. And while Carey and Jeter didn't spend a lot of time together, each was very much aware of the other's presence. Carey did a turn at the deejay booth, but spent a substantial amount of time on the dance floor with Schenkenberg. One observer put it, "She had Marcus out there half the night, and I'm sure part of it was to make Derek jealous." But she stole a few moments with her man in pinstripes, whispering and exchanging a quick kiss. Jeter and Carey, who began dating in 1996 while she was still married, blamed the media for their split last spring. Their public meeting at Puffy's party wasn't the first since their breakup. Shortly after the World Series, Jeter was spotted at a downtown club with a bodacious blonde, while Carey and her pals were sitting at a nearby table. "Derek kept looking at Mariah, while his date was sitting there rubbing his leg," laughs our spy.
When Carey and pals decided to call it a night, Mariah said goodnight
to Derek, then turned to his chain-smoking date and quipped,
"Smoking's bad for your health." Note that this is gossip, and half of it may not even be true.

Friday, 6th of November 1998 - Sweetheart success in Germany! Peter tells me that Sweetheart entered the German Top 100 at 29#. He thinks that it will rise more next week. The Video is sometimes played 2-3 times a day on VIVA TV. It is also at 2# on the Jam FM (german blackmusic radio) Top 40. And Uwe, also from Germany, tells me it's very high on the DJ Blackpool charts where DJ's vote for their favourite songs. |

Friday, 6th of November 1998 - More about Puffys birthday party. I'm impressed! My birthday parties aren't even half this cool! Well, not even 1% actually ;) Puffy Daddy had 1000 guests on his party that took place Nov 4 at Cipriani restaurant on Wall Street, New York. The famous people there included Mariah Carey, Derek Jeter, Denzel Washington, Queen Latifah; Donald Trump, Christie Brinkley, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, Kevin Costner, Francis Ford Coppola, Muhammad Ali, Michael Bolton, Donna Karan, Martha Stewart, Mike Tyson, Total, Mase, Faith, 112, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, Lil' Kim, Heavy D and more and more and more. |

Friday, 6th of November 1998 - Get invited to Mariah's party!! Mariah will do a recordsigning at Virgin MegaStore/Union Square/New York Tuesday, November 17 from 6:00-8:00pm. She'll sign the #1's CD and if that wasn't enough: Supposedly the first 500 people in line at the record signing will also be invited to a private record party afterwards at a secret location. So if you live anywhere CLOSE to New York, November 17 is a perfect day to skip school or whatever and wait in line! =) |

Friday, 6th of November 1998 - Mariah on Access Hollywood! Mariah was on Access Hollywood tonight because she was at Puffy's party last night. When she was walking in she said she was looking forward to "getting some comp(free- short for complimentary) drinks." They showed her inside and her hand was just touching Derek's shoulder for a second and then she took it off, and saw a camera and started dancing. She was wearing a kind of bright red dress with a black shawl or something around her arms that went behind her back. So it was very cool! Still got your hands on Derek Mariah? ;) |

Friday, 6th of November 1998 - Screensaver mystery. I told you about a #1's screensaver you could download on the www.mcarey.com site, but then it suddenly dissapeared. I don't know if it's back now, but Danny managed to get hold of it and here is what he says: "The screensaver has all the single covers of the songs on her #1's album. It's very intresting. I've included a screen capture."
And when I write these news Evan emails me more about it:
#1's And it's got a little white butterfly floating all over the screen and there are about 3 single covers at a time jus bouncing around, they are small and they change to another cover every few seconds. they have the Sweetheart cover on there, and how can it be a #1 if it hasn't even been released yet? I am running in "High Color (16 bit)" and the screensaver ran just fine, so I don't think you really need to be running in 256 mode to run the Screensaver. |

Friday, 6th of November 1998 - Golden Divas The Divas Live album didn't do all too well on the US charts, but now it's gone Gold which means 500.000 copies shipped. So that's not that bad! Thanx to Kay for telling me about it. Speaking of Golden Divas, I told you about a survey this morning about who's the favourite divas, and you must have voted good because Mariah was in a big, big lead last time I looked. I forgot to mention the site who had the survey though, it's a beautiful site well worth checking out. |

|
Friday, 6th of November 1998 - Mariah fans wants the Do You Know song! But how much? Really much according to my survey. 9 out of 10 US fans would buy an import CD of #1's just to get the song Do You Know. That's actually much higher than I thought, I wish Sony knew about this! (And puts the song on the US CD.) |

Friday, 6th of November 1998 - "This is music, not boxing" Those were the wise words said by Whitney when she was asked about if she and Mariah were enemies. Tonigth Arista Records had a big record release party with pressconference and it was live on the Internet. I listened of course, and I also recorded some soundfiles for those interested. The file "Pressconference,part2" has Whitney talking about Mariah so go listen to it: Click here to go listen to the Whitney pressconference soundclips.
And I didn't record this below, but this was what was said about
When You Believe on the record release. (written by me 4 hours ago.) |

Thursday, 5th of November 1998 - Old Mariah friends making news. .O.L.A. Recordings' singing sensations Voices Of Theory will release a cutting edge video for ``Wherever You Go,'' the follow up single to their Top 10 smash gold hit ``Say It'' off their self - titled debut album. The group shot the video in Los Angeles with famed Billboard and MTV award winning video director Mark Gerard (Celine Dion, Babyface, Aaliyah). ``Wherever You Go'' is a powerful, yet subtle video dealing with AIDS and personal loss. The emotional video was shot using a motion - controlled camera and computer generated imaging to create a unique ``seamless'' effect; a special effect rarely used in music videos which shows no edits. This week ``Wherever You Go'' broke Billboard's Top 40 charts; reaching No.28 on the Hot R&B Singles Chart and No.36 with a bullet on the Hot 100 Singles Chart. The song was written and produced by Boyz II Men's Michael ``Bass'' McCary and partner Durell Bottoms. The song is an expressive and inspiring love ballad about lost loves. ``Wherever You Go'' is reminiscent of the classic sounds of fellow Philly soul group Boyz II Men -- and it's no wonder, the group is newly managed by Boyz II Men's Michael ``Bass'' McCary and Durell Bottoms. Voices Of Theory's own bass man, the gorgeous 19 year old Eric Serrano adds a seductive Spanish monologue to the introduction and plays the lead role in the video. Voices Of Theory has steadily been gaining widespread attention from Pop & R&B audiences. Their promotional tour included dates with some of the biggest names in the industry such as their mentors Boyz II Men, Backstreet Boys and Mariah Carey who gave the group their first big break by allowing them to open for her Music Box tour in 1993. Voices Of Theory have been on ABC's ``The View'' with Barbara Walters, The Jenny Jones Show, Good Day New York (FOX), Good Day Philadelphia (FOX), BET ``Teen Summit'' and Soul Train, and have been featured in the November issue of VIBE magazine. Look out for Voices Of Theory's upcoming appearances on CNN Showbiz and MTV News. |

Wednesday, 4th of November 1998 - Mariah's Nobel concert a big success. Mariah did this concert last year in Norway. Just now I read an article that the Norway opera boss says it's a cultural scandal including foreign pop stars ahead of Nordic artists. The mention of Mariah is that "The 1997 concert was the first big popular success and included singers Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Jewel and Emmylou Harris. ``We've tried different formats,'' he said. ``In 1995 we had a classical concert.''" Reading this got me thinking of the starving children thing again. Even though this thing was over one and a half years old when Mariah was doing the concert, Norways biggest newspaper wrote that she was not worthy being there singing for peace because she said that thing about starving children. I remember I got SO MAD at that and wrote them lots and lots of mails about it, but I never got any reply. Those who don't know about the starving children issue can click here to read about it. |

Wednesday, 4th of November 1998 - Read this great article!! It's from a british newspaper and written by Noel. It's great and Mariah talks about her family and it's touching I think (speaking of touching, as I'm writing this they start playing Hero on the radio), and there are some nice photos! |

Wednesday, 4th of November 1998 - Mariah on The View? This is a TV-show in USA (where else?) and Bill tells me that Mariah is now being listed to be on Tuesday, November 17th. I'm not sure about that since November 17 might be very crowded for Mariah with the record release and signing and all. So check our TV-guides and let me know if she'll be there please. |

Wednesday, 4th of November 1998 - Sweetheart on MTV here in Europe. Yesterday Sweetheart was #10 on the MTV Europe R&B charts "The Lick". And Bruno tells me it entered at #17 on the MTV European top 20 this week!! I find that really hard to understand though, even My All wasn't on that chart, was it? There was also a COMPETITION of some sort, and here is what Bruno writes about it: ======================= After the video was shown I sadly didnīt listen to the exact words of the moderator, as I didnīt think he would talk about Mariah. He was saying something like Mariah is on fire and they (MTV) want to find out who would be HER real honey. So if I didnīt understand him wrong they wanted the boys to write to MTV European top 20 about WHY they would be the boy for Mariah. He even mentioned that the viewers had to write to European top 20 adress, which would be shown at the end of the program. I sadly couldnīt see the end of it so I canīt tell you the adress!!! Maybe weīre lucky and somebody else can tell you more about it, but Iīm quite sure it was a contest concerning Mariah and her best HONEY. ======================= Did anyone else see it and can say what it was about?? I think this show is on Friday in my country so I'll watch it then. |

Wednesday, 4th of November 1998 - Equal billing, silly argument. This argument of billing of the When You Believe song is kindof silly, don't you think? Eric and v16j82v tells me about an article about it on the MTV site today: ========================== Whitney And Mariah To Share "Prince Of Egypt" Billing According to the folks at DreamWorks, divas Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey will be splitting the worldwide top billing for their duet on the "Prince of Egypt" soundtrack, "When You Believe." Last week, the two singers linked up to shoot the video for the ballad in Brooklyn, and despite the squabbling over top billing by their respective labels, the two seemed to get along just fine (see "Whitney And Mariah Talk About Teaming For 'Prince Of Egypt'"). As Houston explained to MTV News' John Norris at the time, uniting and overcoming obstacles is what the song is all about. "The meaning behind the song is, you know, the book of Exodus," Houston said. "The children of Israel were crosing the desert and getting to the Promised Land. It's relative to any situation, trying to get over some obstacle to some other point in life, you know? So, it's just, the meaning of the song is really great." [28.8 RealVideo]
The "Prince of Egypt" soundtrack arrives on November 17, and the duet can also
be found on the upcoming solo albums from both Houston and Carey. If you go to the MTV site at http://www.mtv.com/news/headlines/981104/story2.html you can see RealVideo clips of the news. |
