I: Okay Taryll, thanks very much for taking the time out to speak to us this evening.
TARYLL: Thank you very much.
I: Now listen, I wanted to ask you; when you first started out, you and the other brothers, you used to use mops and things like that pretending to be like the Jackson 5, did you guys ever think that one day you'd be recording stars yourselves?
TARYLL: Well, that's what we were aiming for, that's something we've always wanted to do. So um, I guess the answers' yes to that one.
I: Were you ever, along the way, frightened by the magnitude of the Jackson name? Obviously it carries a lot of weight.
TARYLL: Um, we were never frightened from becoming big stars. We've always wanted to do music so being on the side of the stage and watching them perform was something that inspired us, that gave us confidence and it made us want to do it. It's something that we really wanted to do and they gave us a lot, they taught us a lot about the business and they gave us a lot of advice.
I: A major part of your success, I guess a break through for you guys, would have been your inclusion on the 'Free Willy' soundtracks, 1 & 2, how did that come about?
TARYLL: Well, we did songs for both Free Willy 1 and Free Willy 2, but the song on Free Willy 1, a song called 'Didn't mean to hurt you' was one of our demo's that we did, to get our deal.We were originally signed to EPIC and what we did was; we recorded 3 songs; 'Memories', 'Didn't mean to hurt you', and a song called 'Don't Worry', at EPIC to to get a record deal and we later got signed by EPIC, they liked the material, and at the same time, MJJ music was looking for material to put on to the soundtrack of Free Willy 1 and the president of MJJ records, Jerry Greenberg, heard the song and he fell in love with it and he asked us if he could use it on the Free Willy soundtrack.
I: And wasn't Michael Jackson also involved in the soundtrack, the second Free Willy soundtrack?
TARYLL: Yeah, on the second-first and second one too, yeah. He was. He did a song called 'Childhood' which is a beautiful song, on the HIStory album and the Free Willy 2 album.
I: And how much input does Michael Jackson have in 3T? How much direction does he give you, and stuff like that?
TARYLL: He's been very helpful, he's like the big brother in the group. He's very helpful. He knows exactly what we should do, he helps us with it. And he knows what to do, with his own career. He just gives us advice. He doesn't like to seem like he's being bossy or anyhting. So we kinda have to pull it out of him sometimes. He wants to help us but he doesn't wanna seem too bossy. So we have to get it out of him sometimes. We want him to be bossy, that's the way we want him.
I: I read in an article that you said that you guys weren't going to kill yourselves working as hard as Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. Tell us about that.
TARYLL: Well, the whole family, we work really hard, we wanna be the best we can be. And sometimes being the best you can be requires a lot of work. My uncle didn't get where he was by just sitting on his butt, he really works hard. And that's the way we are, we work really hard to get where we are and where we wanna go. Nothing in life comes easy. A lot of it seems like it's glamorous and he has the easy life...and he has this...and he has that. But he really works hard to get what he has. And we know that we have to work hard. If we wanna play in big stadiums and do big concerts we have to work for it and that's what we plan to do.
I: Okay, thanks Taryll. We'll check you out when you get down here (Australia) alright?
TARYLL: Great!
