Well, I think all of you Avalanche fans feel proud when you be remind of this. It was
actually a dream which became reality. The Red Wings had dominated in the regular season, and they also won the President´s Trophy.
But, it´s big different between the regular season and the Stanley Cup. After some problem with the Canucks and Blackhawks, it was time for at least four games, against the Red Wings.
We got a very nice start of the Western Conference Final, with two victories at Detroit. Later, at Denver, we won one game each. Back to Detroit, the russian five played very good, and the Wings won the game.
Next game was in Denver, and that game is still the topic today. Okey, the Avs won, 4-1, and advanced to the Stanley Cup Final, but the most important thing was probarly Claude Lemieux´s checking from behind on Kris Draper.
The Vice President of the NHL, Brian Burke, suspended Claude Lemieux for two games because of the incident.
Well, if you wanna know more about this incident, enter the Detroit Red Wings chat, and listen to their opinion, or enter Avs chat, and listen to the truth: Kris Draper got what he deserved, after a couple of kneeings and crosscheckings on our hero, Peter Forsberg.
The most important parts of the team in the Cup, was the three all stars, Patric Roy, Peter Forsberg and Joe Sakic.
"Super Joe" had 18 goals, and got what he deserved, the Conn Smythe Trophy. But, we must also remember the excellent effort by the character players, René Corbet, Sylvain Lefebvre and Adam Foote. Stephane Yelle was a rookie, though he played like he had played for ten years. He was without hesitating magnificent defensly.
Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy were the biggest heroes.
But remember this guy below, without him, we had not won the Stanley Cup !
Peter Forsberg scored, passed and played tough, when Avs won the Cup.
We must also thank this "guy" for the Cup, or what do you say ? Have you heard this before:
-"But I don´t wanna play for Quebec" ??......
...... and these guys of course !!
Coach Marc Crawford and General Manager Pierre Lacroix.
