Other: Peter Forsberg became the first player in NHL history to carry the
Stanley Cup over seas in 1996 when he took it home to Sweden. He had been
playing hockey since his early childhood. When he was 17, he started
playing for MODO (Swedish League team), which he stayed with for the next
four years. In 1991 he was drafted (6th over all) to the Philadelphia
Flyers. Ten days later, he was part of a blockbuster trade envoling
several other players including Mike Ricci and Eric Lindros. The trade
was made when Lindros refused to play in the "French speaking" province of
Quebec for the Quebec Nordiques. Three years later, in 1994, Peter scored
the game winning goal against Team Canada in the Winter Olympics
(Lilhammer), earning the team the gold medal. His shot (actually the last
shot in a tie breaking shoot out) was so famous that it was imortalized on
a postage stamp. In the following year he earned the Calder Trophy (Best
Rookie in the NHL).
He is currently dating an American girl named Koli Chapell (for about a
year), but no plans of marriage have be heard as of now.
Peter's father, Kent Forsberg, is the coach of the Swedish National Team.
U2 is his favorite band, "Basic Instinct" is his favorite movie, and "The
Fresh Prince of Bel Air" is his favorite t.v. show. His hobbies include
playing tennis and golf.
