Birthplace: Burnaby, B.C.
Full Name: Joseph Steve Sakic
Currently Resides: Littleton, Colorado
Nick-Names: Joey
Other: What can I say about Joe? He is wonderful. He's a beautiful
skater. He has a magnificent wrist shot. He has a georgeous wife
named Debbie and an adorable son named Mitchell. He is the most selfless
person I have ever seen in my life. He's the softspoken captain of the
Avs and when he speaks, they listen. He's popular among the girls, successful, and
happy. What more could anyone want? He has been through tough times and
they have made him strong. Most specifically the bus accident on
December 30, 1986 envolving
his junior team, the Swift Current Broncos, that killed four of his
teammates (Trent Kresse, Scott Kruger, Chris Mantyka and Brent
Ruff. There has since been a trophy named for them, "Four Broncos
Memorial Trophy" honoring the WHL Player of the Year -- thanks to Amy
Sullivan, Spokane, WA for this info!). Then later he learns that one of his
fellow Broncos, Sheldon
Kennedy, was being sexually molested by their coach. Despite all that he
has had a great life. He met his wife while he was in high school. He
worked up the courage to introduce himself to her when she was a
sophomore and the two got married just two years ago. A true love
story. His wife and son are the best things that ever happened to him,
he says, and is constatnly speaking of them and thier effect on his
life. Plus, Joey can kick a 50 ft. feild goal. What can't this man do?
