Other: Val is a magnificent skater with remarkable balance and a unstoppable determination to win. He came to a country unknown to his greatness. In Russia, he was the Captain of the Red Army, a team that won the gold medal for hockey in Albertville, France. A team that included Val's future NHL teammate, Alexei Gusarov. Then he found himself in French speaking Quebec. He was virtually unknown to fans in other cities. Never having an interview in Canada, even the Quebec fans knew him only for his skating. Fortunately for Val, his skating speaks volumes. Upon his move to Colorado with the ex-Nordiques, he found himself embraced by Colorado's love for their new hockey team. Soon it was certain that Val could no longer hide behind the rest of his famous teammates. Just this season he gave his fisrt two interviews, persuaded to do so by his 8 year-old son, Viktor. And so after a summer English class to improve his speaking, Val gave his first interview. This taped conversation, done that was so Val could be sure it was alright, was on his perpetual play of the year; a goal ala figure skater in a 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers. The second, this time live, followed his next game winning goal, an over-time winner vs. Pittsberg. And so Val Kamensky was finally introduced to the state that loved him. Val's wife, Natali, Viktor, and Val himself all spend their summers in Florida
