#12 Shean Donovan
Scouting Report
The Finesse Game
Donovan has big-league speed. His quickness and powerful stride allow him to shift
directions with agaility. And he doesn´t waste energy. He knows where he is supposed to be positioned and reads play well.
He has good anticipation, which stamps him as a strong penalty killer, although he is not a real shorthanded scoring threat
yet because of his lack of moves on a breakaway. Donovan showed a more promising finishing touch last season, getting his goals
in limited ice time. He may never be a great point-getter because of his lack of scoring or playmaking touch, but it will not be
for lack of effort. He is a diligent worker, and may develop into one of the top defensive forwards in the NHL. He isn´t fazed
by facing some of the league´s better forwards, either.
The Physical Game
Donovan is always busy making his hits, and brings a lot of energy to a game, much in manner of Dave Lowry. Donovan doesn´t have
much of a mean streak, nor will he agitate. He takes the body, but doesn´t punish people. He is well-conditioned and has good stamina.
The Intangibles
Donovan ranks at the top in skating with noted NHL speedster Mike Gartner. His scoring touch is someting new, and there is the possibility
of Donovan developing into one of those prized checking forwards who can pot 20-25 goals ina season. He has a great attitude and is one of
those special character players every dressing room needs.
