#16 Jeff Odgers
Scouting Report
The Finesse Game
Odgers is a meat-and-potatoes skater. He patrols up and down his wing with diligence, if not much style or creativity. Any scoring opportunities he generates come from his hard work off the forecheck. He lacks the hands skills and the vision to be much of a playmaker, but anyone playing with him is wise to follow in his wake because he churns up a lot of loose pucks. And he's smart enough to play as a safety valve on a line with better offensive talent. He drops back to cover high if the other winger and/or the defensemen move deep into the attacking zone. Odgers has some good speed and balance, but only if he's travelling in a straight line without the puck. He lacks mobility and agility, though effort can compensate for a lot of finesse shortcomings.
The Physical Game
Odgers takes the body and plays tough. He loves to forecheck and finds it a special challenge to outwit goalies who are strong stickhandlers, getting in on top of them quickly to try to force a bad pass. He takes a lot of aggressive penalties, though he has cut down on the bad penalties that hurt his team.
The Intangibles
Odgers is one of those lunchpail types the Bruins prize so much. He adds toughness and leadership to the team and tries to fill in at any role.
