#26 Stephane Yelle
Scouting Report
The Finesse Game
Yelle is a smart player who reads the play extremely well. His knowledge of the game is what has made him an NHL player. His other skills are average: he's a good skater, but he sees the ice in terms of his defensive role. He's a player you want on the ice to kill penalties or to protect a lead. Yelle doesn't take many face-offs, usually yielding to Mike Ricci in the defensive-zone draws. He doesn't have the hands to get involved in the offense. He isn't even a real shorthanded threat because he doesn't have breakaway speed and will make the safe play instead of the glamourous one.
The Physical Game
Yelle is a tall and stringy-looking athlete with toothpicks for legs. He handles himself well, because even though he doesn't look very strong, he finds a way to get the puck out.
The Intangibles
Yelle will miss his checking-line partner, Mike Keane, and will assume the bulk of the club's penalty-killing duties.
