Please note:

Some have reported that the downloaded mp3 files sounds distorted. I have looked into this and found that when using Netscape it sometimes happens to me too. It never happens when using MS Internet Explorer 4.01 though. I have _no_ idea why!!
If anyone knows more about this than I do please let me know.

File formats and Audio quality

Our songs are available in PC Wave, MPEG Audio Layer 3 and Real Audio (see above) format.

MPEG Audio Layer 3 - mp3

We have chosen to mainly support MPEG Audio Layer 3, 56K (mp3). 56K is far from CD quality (that requires 128K) but the size of the files is very small. The quality is still good enough to preview the songs and compared to pc wav at a corresponding file size the mp3 56K quality is superior.

Freeware as well as shareware MPEG Audio Layer 3 players for PC, Mac and Unix are available from Nullsoft and Fraunhofer IIS. For the PC WinAmp from Nullsoft is the best choice and it is for free!

PC Wave - non compressed

The uncompressed PC Wave format has only one benefit, it can be played (or at least easily converted) on most platforms, for instance on PC, Mac, Atari, Amiga and Unix systems. Its major drawback is that for a good audio quality the size of the files are huge (4 minutes stereo is about 44 MB). We have chosen a low quality version of wav (8-bit, mono, 11 kHz), which sounds terrible but delivers a reasonably file size. So if possible install an mp3 player for you computer system and download only the mp3 files.

Real Audio

The audio quality is not very good (sometimes actually terrible) but the there is close to no download time. After a few seconds of initiating you can listen to the selected song in real time. If you do not have Real Audio v5 (or higher) installed already please press the icon below to get it.
