Kvarnby Mills
Mölndals Kvarnby, the origin to the city of Mölndal.From the begining of the Palaeolithic period (old stone age),Mesolithic period,
(middle stone age)and the Neolithic Period (new stone age),through the bronze age and Iron age and even the Viking era Mölndals water
systems have been used for travel and the driving of both corn mills and saws.
The first paper mill in Kvarnby was built in 1653,by printer and book maker Thomas Kuhn.
Other well known pioneers were David Otto Franke,which in 1850 established Korndals Paper Mill.Later to be known as Papyrus.
The art of making paper was first started in China, about 200 BC.Egypt became the center
for paper making about 900 AD.Later the technique of printing was developed in Germany and spread thoughout the western world
with the help of the church.
The hand made paper of todays kvarnby can join together both history and todays modern society.Furture plans are being made to establish a
hand making paper mill,together with a museum.In this unique environment kvarnby will become a center for culture,art,education
and industry.
During the middle of the 1800`s primitive textile industries were established.
During the industrial expansion (Industrial Revolution) of the 1850`s and forward the detectable vibrations and sounds
from the mills have been a formidable characteristic in the Kvarnby landscape.
Todays Kvarnby captures its historical and cultural inheritance by means of local museums which are open to the public.
