Make sure that you keep the hinge
on the cap free from adhesive when
bonding Oyster to the tooth.
If the cap is tough to open at first, the
saliva will eventually act as a lubricant
and make the opening much easier.
When using a common orthodontic
adhesive we do recommend you to
apply a "Plastic primer" on the bracket
base for "safe" bonding.
In vitro studies have shown the cap to
withstand up to 3000 grams of force
before breaking.
In order to prevent any damage of the
cap or bracket always use the special
instrument "Oyster Cap Opener" when
opening the door.
When opening the cap it is essential
that you keep the instrument exactly
in the middle of the same in order not
to damage the bracketwings.
Our scientists have found that "fruit
flavored teas" (etheral oils) could have
a degrading effect on the Polycarbo-
nate in Oyster. We would recommend
you to advice your customers and reps
to forward this information on to the
patients not to drink these beverages
during treatment with Oyster or any
Polycarbonate brackets (Vogue, Elan,
Blonde, Solo etc). Regular tea dosen't
have any impact on the material.
