The second "Friends of the Alum Shale" meeting was held 26 - 30 May 1997, at the Paleo Geology Center in Lidköping at Vänern, Sweden.

The following papers were presented:

  • Per Ahlberg, Euan Clarkson, and Cecilia Taylor: Faunal dynamics and morphological changes in the Upper Cambrian Olenus Zone at Andrarum, Sweden.

  • Anita Löfgren: Redeposition of conodonts from the Upper Cambrian to the Lower Ordovician in Sweden, and its stratigraphic implications.

  • Arne Nielsen and Niels Schouvsbo: Sea.level oscillations and palaeoenvironments.

  • Frank Rudolph: Significant finds of Upper Cambrian trilobites in the Geschiebe.

  • Frank Rudolph: Trilobites in the erratic boulders of northern Germany.

  • Peter Sheldon: Plus ça change - an evolutionary model to test in the Alum Shales.

  • Nils Spjeldnæs: Ecology and taphonomy of some Alum Shale faunas.

  • Nils Spjeldnæs: The Alum Oil Shale.

  • Svend Stouge: The Cambro-Ordovician boundary and its position in the Alum Shale.
