Research
The Institute for Sports Science is working with applied sports science as well as basic research in biochemistry and physiology in collaboration with the department of Medicine, Uppsala University, and the department of Physiology and Pharmacology and department of Clinical Physiology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm.
The applied science is dealing with endurance sports such as cross country skiing, orienteering, track and field, mountain biking, road cycling and rowing. Also team sports such as icehockey and bandy (on ice) are represented.
The basic research in biochemistry and physiology projects are
- carbohydrate metabolism in the muscle cell
- altitude training, normobaric hypoxia as well as hypobaric hypoxia.
- the effect of physical loading on the metabolism in bone cells
