| In Brief Shortly after the turn of the century John Elphinstone replaced his 'brother', Marcus 'The Monk' Ek, as primogen of clan Ventrue on their sire's wishes. Apparently The Monk had upset their sire. Mr. Elphinstone has since worked hard to stabilize the position of the declining Ventrue of Gothenburg, as many of them have disappeared periodically for some 300 years. After World War II, he ran into a surprisingly enterprising man, Johan van Engel, and turned him into his ghoul. Van Engel has proved to be an excellent aid and is considered for embracement as he would make a very worthy addition to clan Ventrue. |

| Background John Elphinstone was born and bred in good old England. Being of the rather wealthy Elphinstones of that Ilk, he had every opportunity to educate himself. His knowledge of science and engineering has grown from the days at Oxford through his unlife and he has experienced the industrial revolution, first hand, with much interest. Details of Mr. Elphinstone's past in England is not common knowledge to the kindred of Gothenburg but in 1901 he presented himself to Vincent Blakeney, Toreador Prince of Gothenburg since 1721. In 1902 he had gotten a firm hold of Dan Broström, a well reputed businessman and politician. Four years later Mr. Elphinstone was the force behind the purchase of Götaverken from the Keiller family. He held on to the shipyard well into the sixties and was one of his favorite enterprises. Having established a foundation for future business and political expansion, he swiftly moved in to take over as primogen of clan Ventrue. During the century his business interests has shifted and spread over new boundaries but he has never lost sight of what must be controlled, such as banking and politics, in order to protect the kindred of Gothenburg from dark forces. |

| Personality If asked, he would describe himself as a very reasonable man. His friends might call him trustworthy, extremely organized and focused. Those who would categorize him as vindictive, grumpy and unforgiving are either dead, on the run, or very powerful. Few however see his passionate side, as the foci of his passions are not something he generally speaks of. Besides, who would look for passion in a Ventrue primogen? |

| Current affairs Mr. Elphinstone's attention is currently tuned mainly on two things:
