The instructions for making cannabis liqueur are ridiculously simple; get
some buds, put them into a wide-necked jar with a secure stopper; cover
them with vodka and leave to stand for three weeks, turning the jar every
day. As for which vodka to use, well, there really is none better than
Absolut.

As they say in the impeccably stylish Absolut ads, 'there is no purer
vodka.' This can be demonstrated by gas chromatography, which shows Absolut
to be practically pure ethanol. In fact, the refined spirit is so devoid of
character that the distiller has to 'build in' imperfections for the
neutral spirit to taste of anything at all. The Swedish marketing wizards
have developed a range of Absolut flavours: Citron, Peppar, Kurrant - and,
with their 'Absolut Shots' campaign, encourage barmen to experiment with
flavours of their own. Absolut Cannabis, anyone?

The regular Absolut, in the bell-shaped bottle with the blue lettering, at
40 per cent alcohol-by-volume, is perfectly good for our purpose, but the
export strength Absolut, with the red lettering and sold only in duty free
shops, at 100 proof (50+ ABV) is better.

Any kind of cannabis can be used, but hash will take longer to dissolve. By
far the best is fresh and sticky, uncured herbal cannabis. Use a tall,
wide-necked Kilner jar (or improvise with a glass spaghetti jar) and shove
lengths cut from the tops of the cannabis plants - buds, leaves, stem and
all into the jar, packing it as tightly as you can afford. A little bud
will give you a tasty and mildly-stony drink, but a well-packed jar will
give an powerful potion, two shots of which will send you into a zone.

Cap the bottle tightly and shake it well. Let the bottle sit for two or
three weeks, but be sure to give it a good shake every day. Filter the
contents into a clean glass bottle and it is ready to drink. Take it
straight, or mix with something neutral like soda water in order not to
disguise that great marijuana flavour.

Remember that it takes at least thirty minutes to feel the effects of the
THC when it is consumed in this way. When tasting, limit yourself to one
shot of cannabis liqueur every half hour until you have determined its
potency.
