Riga Bay

Partly overlapping radiographs of the upper part of core RB1 from a depth of 45 m in the Riga Bay (station no. 172).

The deposits in this core are bioturbated. Tubes, U-shaped and of other types and some shells (Macoma balthica) are found in the upper part of the core. Myceloid-like clusters, probably of pyrite threads, characterize the core at a depth of about 42 - 43 cm.

Vertical variation in content of solids in sediment core RB1 (the values = dry bulk density x 1000).

As shown by the density curve, there is a rather soft layer at a core depth of about 15 - 19 cm and a harder layer at a core depth of about 44 - 45 cm.
